In the last decades, the deforestation of forests and riparian forests and the inappropriate use of the soil have contributed to the decrease in the volumes and quality of water, an irreplaceable natural asset in human life.

The misuse of water resources puts the lives of all living beings and ecosystems at risk and directly affects several human activities, in addition to agriculture, livestock and industries that depend on water to obtain their products.

The lack of water produces a domino effect, affecting the population, nature and the economy.

For this reason, the program came up with the idea of mapping, preserving and recovering springs in the member municipalities, in order to reduce water scarcity in the regions where it is present. The program brings numerous benefits to the consortium municipalities, the population and especially the environment.

For the conservation of springs and springs on rural properties, soil and vegetation protection measures must be adopted, ranging from the elimination of burning practices, fencing the area and even the enrichment of native forests, in addition to avoiding the contamination of water by animal waste and chemical substances, such as pesticides.

Purposes:

- Identify the springs to understand the water supply of the municipality;

- Evaluate the spring through hydroenvironmental diagnosis;

- Contribute to the structuring and consolidation of a water management system;

- Expand the capacity of managers and servants for the monitoring necessary for environmental protection;

- Promote spring recovery actions that will benefit communities and watersheds.
